Intermittant Exotropia
Background for those who don't know, we've been noticing Mya's eyes drifting outward for a couple of months. A trip to the doctor got us a referral to a pediatric opthamologist for further testing. We were lucky enough to get in yesterday (our appointment was originally scheduled for May 26) because of a cancellation. The doctor and the technician were both great and they were able to tell us that she does in fact have intermittant exotropia which is a form of strabismus (misaligned eyes). The good news is that her vision is fine and the problem is with the muscles behind her eyes. We have our next assessment on June 14th to see if there is any difference. 25% of kids will out grow it, the other 75% have an outpatient surgery to tighten the eye muscles. We're so relieved to have the initial appointment out of the way!

Sorry you all have to go through this but it sounds like you are ok with the info so far. This is the tough part of parenthood that we didn't bother warning you about. I will keep a positive thought that she will heal herself. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi there! My LO; almost 10 months has intermittent exotropia and I have been worried sick. So glad to come across your site and read your posts. It's very comforting to know I'm not the only one going through this. I look forward to hearing how Mya's surgery goes. She is a beautiful girl with great parents! Our eye doctor is keeping an eye on her exotropia and wants to see her again after her 1st birthday. The next couple months is going to be tough. Best to Mya and your family!
